A figure walked down the hall in complete darkness. She had a backpack over one shoulder, and was wearing dark jeans and a black hoodie. The hoodie was over her bright red hair. She felt her way across the cobblestone walls, the butterflies in her stomach at a peak. Her hands located a doorknob but she wasn't sure if it was the right one. There was a small flashlight in her pocket and she fished it out. She looked up and down the hall, seeing no one, and turned it on.
It was the right room. She opened the door and slid through the small crack, clicking the light off. No one was there yet. The figure checked her watch. Did they go to the wrong place? She calmed herself down and knelt in the middle of the floor, dumping her backpack out and getting to work.

Jase peered round the door way, his heart racing after narrowly avoiding the librarian on her nightly stroll. He too was all dressed in black, it helped him blend in with the darkness, made it easier for him to skulk in shadows so the teachers didn't see. He was nervous, far more nervous than he'd expected. So many things had happenned since they had first planned the seance, he just hoped it would still all go according to plan. And that no one would get hurt. He'd die of guilt if anyone got hurt. He crept into the room and saw Cat there, at least this meant he had come to the right place. "Good evening," he announced in a voice that was far more confident than he felt.

Cat jumped and dropped a candle on the floor. Thankfully it wasn't lit. "Don't scare me like that!" she muttered. "I'm a little on edge tonight." Not like everyone else wouldn't be. She could feel her heart racing as she picked the candle up again. She turned the flashlight on again, and found the box of matches and the lighter. Then she handed him the box of matches and a candle and consulted a lined piece of paper she had with all the instructions written upon it in blue ink.
"Let's get started then," she said apprehensively.

"Yes, we have much to do. How many others are coming?" Jase asked gravely, and apprehensive feeling coming over him as he knelt down to help her, silently reading though the instructions. Admittedly, he knew little of seances, only what he had read in books or seen in horror films. He hoped it wouldn't be quite as gruesome and terrorfying as in the horror films though.

Cat consulted a sticky note on the other side of the instructions. "Um... well at least 9 and no more than 15. It has to be a number divisible by three," she muttered. "Some people said they might, some people wanted to bring people, and knowing the way gossip flows, random people are going to show up. But I told people that if they're planning on coming, not to bother coming after 11:30 because we'd be starting then." She struck a match, but failed to light it. Her hands were shaking too much.

"Well, it shouldn't be too many...on a night like this I reckon most of them will freak out and be too scared to come anyway. I know I'm terrorfied.." he said, his teeth chattering from cold. He reached for the match box, seeing that Cat was having trouble, even he could barely keep his hands still. He told himself this was because of the cold, but it might just have been the deathly fear that had come over him. Her struck the match in the end and lit the nearest candle. It was only a small flame, he watched it flicker, fight againstthe cold and darkness, but in the end it won. He smiled to himself, maybe it was a sign.

"Thanks," Cat said. She picked up the sheet with the instructions written on it. Her stomach was squirming.
"Okay, it says we have to light three candles and place them in a circle. Then we have to put the three pine branches around the candles, and the stones around that in a circle." She took another candle and lit it from the previously lit one.

"Do we have pine branches?" Jase asked, letting his curiosity get the better of the fear that was brimming up inside him. What was strange was that he wasn't scared for himself, he was just terrorfied that once again, his actions would bring about a tragedy that would affect others and just make things worse.

Cat grabbed them from underneath the sheets. For safety, she counted them, even though she had counted them and at least every other object in her backpack at least five times. "Yep we do," Cat said grimly. She was starting to dread this, but she really wanted to talk to Davey. Tonight they might solve the mystery that had been haunting the school for nearly 2 years. But they might also end up causing harm to everyone who joined. Cat really didn't want to be held responsible for that, and didn't want it on her conscience that she had made stupid choices. She put the pine branches around the candles.

"Right, suppose we just wait for the others now. I'd prefer if no one else was invoved really, that I was only risking my own life, I'd hate it if anyone else was harmed by this..." he muttered, his voice trailing off. Seeing it all laid out with the candles and everything, he felt apprehensive, this was it, this was real, and tonight, they might actually find out one of the things that had been troubling him for ages.

"Same here..." Cat whispered, staring into the three flickering flames. She clasped her clammy hands together. It was that time of doing something rebellious that she felt like she should turn back before something bad happened. To Cat, that was a familiar feeling, but tonight it seemed worse, and she didn't want anything dangerous to happen.

"But..but if the slightest thing starts to go wrong, we get them all out, okay? And you get out too, we can't risk anything this time," Jase said gravely, the eerie silence of the sleeping school starting to get to him.

Cat nodded. "Pinky swear it?" she asked nervously. "You can't break a pinky swear." She stuck her pinky out with a hopeful smile at Jase.

Linking his little fonger with hers, Jase smiled uneasily. "Yeah, I swear, on the sacred law of the pinky," he replied.

"The very sacred law," Cat said, hiding her fear and almost laughing. She took her pinky away. "Now, to wait for everyone else," she added, checking her watch. It read 11:15. "People are going to start showing up around now and we will start in exactly 15 minutes, whether everyone's here or not." She gulped.
