Leilah was out in the fields. They were empty. No one was around. It was ever-so peaceful. Sighing she rolled on her back and flicked the page over on her favorite novel "Pride and Prejudice" and next to her lay an open Shakespeare book on the play "cymbeline." She loved to swim deeply into the secret world of books. She adored it as in there, there was a whole other world. It was so perfect and different from her own. She smiled into the book and felt the wind caress her face, as it made all the little strands of grass turn a silky silver. Like a silver sea of wonders.

Lynne was out walking to try and clear her head. It had been harder than she expected to get back into the swing of things here. She was so engrossed in her thoughts that she wasn't looking where she was going and tripped over someone.

Leilah suddenly felt a hard thump and jerked her head forwards, to see that some one had indeed tripped over to her. Scurrying to her feet, she dropped her book and went to the girl, which she had not seen before. "Oh, I'm ever-so sorry," she said in a her strong Arabic accent, as she brushed the dust off the girl's jump. "Did i harm you?" A preoccupied frown deepened on her brow.

''No, I'm allright.'', said a cheerful voice suddenly, ''But our friend here doesn't seem to be so...'' The girl smiled. ''Only joking...I know you were talking to her...'', she said as she helped Lynne to get up. The girl had intense green eyes and her ginger hair was tight up in two ponytails that reached down to her shoulders. ''Hi there.'', she said happily, apparently unaware of the startled lookthe two girls were casting at her. ''My name is Jessica Turner. What's yours?''

“I’m Leilah,” she said introducing herself in her strong Arabic accent, her dark eyes bowed slightly, as it was her usual costume to do. She turned to look at the girl and smiled, her equally dark hair falling in front of her eyes. “Pleased to meet you, Jessica.”

Jessica looked curiously at the girl. ''That accent is not from around here. Where are you from?'', she then noticed the book Leilah was holding. ''Pride and Prejudice? You like Austen's novels?'' Jessica couldn't help asking a lot of questions. She had always been like that and she enjoyed talking to new people. The problem is that she didn't always notice when she was being annoying. Luckily though, Jessica was the kind of person that one never gets tired of being with. She was pretty unpredictable and no one really understood her well, which made her even more curious.

"I'm acctually from Pakistan," she said and sighed, hating the place she came from. Pakistan had been on the new quite too many times and now the country and had gotten a foul reputation. Turning to look at her book she smiled. "Yes i like Jane Austen. I've personally read Rpdie and Prejudice quite too many times."

''Pakistan...'' repeated Jessica, an empty look in her emerald green eyes. It was impossible to know what she was thinking. Then she shook her head, accompanied by a swing of her two ponytails and asked, ''How can you read a book so many times?'' Jessica had never understood why some people had the strange habit of reading the same book over and over again. Wasn't it enough to read it one time? Of course, Jessica didn't understand it becouse she did not like reading. She found books absolutely boring becouse she could always tell what was going to happen in the end...or so she thought. ''Do you like anything else apart from reading?'' Then she looked at the other girl, Lynne, and wondered if she would finally say something.

"Umm....i like watching films and doing the usual teenage things. Except for I'm nto very good at that since well...at home i don't really do that. I'm used to being locked in a room waiting for my brothers or father to take me out. Not fun," she said and sighed. "I can read a book many times because i really like it. It's my favorite you see."

Jessica listened to Leilah without making any silly comment or joking, which was unusual on her. For some reason, she admired people who had qualities she lacked, and therefore she was respectful to them. Jessica had never been patient enough to open a book and read it from the beginning to the last page. What Leilah said stunned Jessica. There was no way she could stand being locked in a room for more than ten minutes...if it was not for planning some sort of mischievous joke. ''I see...but why do you have to wait till one of them takes you out?'', Jessica did not really understand it. I mean, what kind of person would have his daughter locked in a room all day...? Or maybe she likes being in her room..., Jessica thought, confused.

She shrugged. "Religion controls my family. Binding them and seperating them. So, according to my religion women cannot go out if they are not accompied by when. It's how it works, unfortunatly, however annoying it may be. So me being a women, i was not allowed to go out," she explained calmly.

''Whaaat!?,'', exclaimed Jessica, her eyes wide open, ''How utterly unfair!'' Then she calmed down a little. ''I mean...oh, I'm so sorry...I hope I didn't offend you...'' She sat down, cross legged on the grass and she let Munchie run about, around her. ''Is that why you came to Trenton?''

She shrugged. "Partly. My dad has also come to work in England he decided to send me off here," she said and sat down next to her. "enogh about me. What about you? Do you think it here?"

''Huh? Oh, yeah, Iove it here in Trenton! It's not like all the other schools I've been to. My grandmother...'' (that is how the old lady that adopted her asked Jessica to call her like) ''...at first she sent me to the best, richest schools. Those schools were all is perfect and discipline is the most important thing OVER ANYTHING ELSE...'' , Jessica shivered with dislike. ''But...heh...I was a complete troublemaker. Though I was very popular among students, teachers didn't seem to like me so much...'' She grinned mischievously and her eyes suddenly looked like ones of a cat that plays with a cornered mouse. ''Good times...'' she sighed and then continued. ''Well, my grandmother didn't know what to do with me, so I asked her to send me here. And here I am!'' Jessica winked. ''And why Trenton? Coz it's big, looks great, I don't have to wear a school uniform and, the best of all...I've heard it's haunted!! It must be really exciting! Of course you know better, you have been here more time...''

“No, actually, I’ve just arrived,” Leilah said shyly, ever-so quietly. “A trouble-maker you were? That must have been quite fun,” she said and too grinned mischievously.
