Mist had always been in love with fairgrounds, there was something about them that got to her, they were sort of poetic in an odd kind of way. She liked watching the way people ran around in a frenzy, half concealed by candyfloss, eyes lit up at eveything around them, when really it was all rather mundane. Today, she was sitting on a wall by the cotton candy stall, a sketchbook open on her lap. She still had a bandage round leg from the accident, which drew more attention to herself than she would have liked. Other than that, she was fairly inconspicous. She was alone, surrounded by other people's voices and the stench of sugar. Which was why she was in love with fair grounds.

Luke walked into the fair, guitar slung over his back. He loved this place. Ever since he came as a first year at Trenton, he had loved coming to the fair. It was old, and rickety, but it was incredibly fun. He loved the rides. He was carrying his guitar around because he had just been practicing in the woods randomly. Sure, he was introverted, but he wasn't a complete loner. The loudness of the fair was rather inspiring.
He looked for a bench to sit down on but there weren't any empty. It was a nice day so there were lots of people here. He noticed a wall behind a cotton candy stand. Good enough... he thought. He walked over there and climbed up the wall, setting his guitar beside him. He looked around and suddenly noticed a girl beside him. "Er... sorry. Hope I didn't intrude there..." he said quietly.

Mist looked up, she didn't often get disturbed when she was here, everyone else was too lost n their own activities to bother her. She looked at the guy, saw he was about her age, nice looking and had a guitar. Guitars were generally a good thing in her book, so she replied quite meekly. "No, it's fine. I wasn't doing anything anyway."

Luke noticed the sketchbook and glanced at it quickly before noticing the bandages on the girls leg. Then he remembered the incident at the ball and grimaced at the unpleasant memory. This must be the same girl who was crushed by the chandelier. "You're Mist, aren't you?" he asked curiously. He wasn't sure if he had the name right. It would be incredibly embarrasing if it wasn't. He crossed his legs on the wall and strummed several strings on his guitar.

"Yeah. Wow, I'm almost popular now, people actually know my name. It's odd," she replied, watching his fingers as he strummed the guitar with a kind of fascination. She couldn't play herself, only wished she could. "I love the sound of guitars," she commented, for want of anything better to say.

Luke chuckled. "I can imagine. No one knows my name but that's probably because I haven't almost died or gotten involved with Davey. Although, most of my friends are in way too deep," he said. He usually wasn't this conversational but he felt pretty comfortable so far. "Yeah, I love guitars too." Damn. That was stupid. Otherwise, why would he be carrying one around. He kicked himself mentally for his dumb comment.

Mist smiled slightly, it was just the kind of comment she would make that would then lead to an awkward silence. Luckily her mind hadn't completely melted out of self consciousness yet, and she was able to think of someting else to say. "I'm sorry to say I don't know your name...Which is odd, as I tend to get dragged into stalking people with guitars. You look like an Alex...or maybe a Tom. A traditional name anyway," she hazarded a guess, although she knew she would probably be wrong. She was just glad the conversation hadn't got awkward yet.

Glad that the awkward silence had been interrupted, Luke answered, "I'm Luke," he said, a smile crossing his round face. "For some strange reason I'm guessing that you like musicians a lot?" he asked as an afterthought. It was just to tease the girl. He liked to do these things for fun as he plucked a random string on his guitar. "I'm really not good though, so you shouldn't stalk me." He agreed whole-heartedly with this statement. Because he was so shy, he would never play in public.

"I'm sure you're just being modest. Don't worry, I won't beg you to play, I get that a lot when my friends want me to sing so I know how annoying it can be. I'm kind of shy when it comes to performing," Mist replied, blushing slightly for no apparent reason. Luckily, enough of her face was concealed by her overgrown blond fringe, so it was not that noticeable.

Luke nodded. "Okay thanks. I hate performing in front of people too so it all works," he told her quietly, his eyes scanning the fair and then his guitar strings. "So you sing then?" he asked. Damn. Another stupid comment. "What do you like to sing?" he asked again, making his comment sound less idiotic.

"Anything really...so long as it's not trashy pop music. There's this band, Sixpence None the Richer, and their songs really...fit with my voice. But yeah..whatever," she replied, inwardly cursing herself for the whatever at the end. As he was looking ahead, she took the opportunity to steal a glance at his face. She couldn't help noticing that he was quite pretty really, although she severely reprimanded herself for thinking so moments later.

"I completely agree," Luke said with a half smile, not exposing the gap inbetween his two front teeth. "I've never heard of that band... do you have a name of one of their songs or something?" he asked quickly.
(ah. sorry. i had to go.)

"My favourite song by them is called Anything, their most famous one is called Kiss Me though, you've probably heard it around somewhere," she replied, then to keep the conversation going, she added, "We should form a band, considering that we're both shy and don't like performing in public we probably wouldn't get very far though."

Luke tried to think of the song, but couldn't come up with anything. "How does Kiss Me go?" he asked, vaguely remembering hearing something named like that, but not actually remembering how it went. He chuckled. "Yeah, stage fright sucks," he said with a sigh. He really didn't want to have stage fright, because he loved playing and eventually would want to perform his stuff, but he was currenly too nervous to even dare to do that. "But if we did it together, I bet it would be loads easier," he speculated.

Mist swung her legs from side to side like a little kid as she spoke, a smile rising to her lips as she became more and more in love with the idea. "Yeah, it might even be fun, although we'll need a drummer, and maybe a bass guitar if we want to be like a proper band. Then again, I don't mind it being just us two for now, I don't reckon I could sing in front of anyone I don't know yet," she replied. She wanted to show him that she could sing, just to prove that she wasn't making it up, so she took the song, Kiss Me as an example. "It goes something like this," she explained, before singing softly, mimicking the dulcet tones of the lead singer that were always reminded her of candy and flowers. "Kiss me, beneath the milky twilight, lead me, out on the moonlit floor...." she sang, smiling slightly as she pronounced the lyrics.
