Jessica opened the door and looked around her. She was impressed. She had never seen a room like that in any other schools. On the floor lay a beautiful rug, and around it, facing the fireplace, were some confortable armchairs and a sofa. A large wooden table stood behind them. The ceiling was high, and through the windows Jessica could see the grounds. ''Now this is what I call a common room.'' said Jessica, satisfaction showing on her face. ''Don't you agree, Munchie?'', she tickled the tiny squirrel that stood on her shoulder. She wondered if anyone was there at the moment.

Hearing someone enter, Jase looked up from the velvety armchair in which he was seated. Seeing the girl, he smiled welcomingly and called a greeting. "Hey...nice squirrel." Something in the way she looked and talked to her pet automatically made him assume she was someone he wanted to know. To add to that, she was a red-head, and he always felt a sort of connection with red heads, being one himself.

Leilah strode into the common room, quite exhasted as she gave out a loud sigh and looked around for a chair where she would just flop down. She had spent most of the day studying the most pointless subject of all; physics. She had drooled on her text book, fallen asleep on it, doodled, scribbled it down some stupid words, hoping that at some point she might find a little interest in it and she would suddenly come to understand it all. The spark never came. So at the end she gave up and want down to the common rooms in hope to sit down and find some aimable company.
Looking around, she caught sight of a girl she roughly knew; Jessica. She seemed to be talking to a boy she did not know yet. She smiled and waved at Jessica. "Hey!" she called out and walked along side her. "Nice to see you again."

Jessica turned to look at the boy that had suddenly got up from the armchair. ''Huh? Oh, thanks. His name's Munchie.'', she said smiling. This is something that bothers some people, but surprisingly Jessica liked when someone complimented her pet instead of her. ''And I'm Jessica Turner. Nice to meet you...hum...what's YOUR name?'' he's also a red-head, how nice, Jessica thought. ''You're not new here, or are you. I just arrived but I think Trenton's pretty cool...''
Then she heard a voice. I know who's voice is this, she thought, as she looked around and saw the girl she had met at the fields. ''Hey Leilah! Put it there! How are you...?'' she said happily as she raised her hand.

Jase watched them curiously, feeling quite surprised that he didn't know either of them. He was used to knowing people and being known, however now, he was the outsider, seeing as the two girls were obviously already friends. He pushed his overgrown fringe out of his eyes and smiled again. "I see you two already know each other. I'm Jase Leigh Hayes...you might have heard of me, I've got somewhat of a reputation around here," he commented, sitting down on the arm of the sofa that was placed in the middle of the room.

Leilah turned and looked at him and frowned, raising a finger. "yeah, Your that guy who burnt down the forest and made another guy blinde. Yeah I've heard of you," she exclaimed. She had heard about it, catching some rumours about it but wasn't really sure about it.

Jase suddenly felt short of breath, as if the world was collapsing in on him, forcing all the air in his lungs out of him. It was like this every time he thought about Casimir and what he had done. He had never let himself forget it, the guilt weighed down on him like an iron anvil, always dragging him down. It was no surprise that the girl had heard about it, but he still went into a state of shock hearing it mentioned in such an accusatory manner. His expression became angry as he remembered that he ought to be furious with himself. "Yeah...that's me," he mumbled, losing all his confidence as he remembered the flames, the stench of burning flesh... He slumped back into the armchair, collapsing into the soft cushions, his legs dangling over the edge. He no longer felt inclined to socialise, he wanted to ignore them, ignore everything. Forget.

Leilah suddenly realised she had said something wrong, by the sight of the guy's expression, tone and action. She cursed herself for being to stupid and open. She knew that this would have hurt him, but no, she just opened her big mouth and it fell out like word-vomit.
She turned and sat down next to him, on the side armchair. "Look, Jase...I'm sorry for having brought up, what clearly is, a terrible subject. It was stupid of me," she said, hoping that it might somewhat work.

Jessica looked from one to the other, and then she remembered...yes, she had heard some rumours abut the forest. She inmediatly felt sorry for Jase. No one would have liked to be famous for that. ''C'mon, Jase! We don't blame you for that accident! Right Leilah?'', Jessica said as she jabbed Leilah softly. On the other hand, we weren't even there! , she thought. She perched on the arm of Jase's armcahir, leaving him between her and Leilah and Munchie climbed up the back. ''Look. We know you didn't mean it to happen. It's normal thet you feel bad about it, but you can't let it drown you! I feel resentful for many things that happened long ago, but here I am! It's not that I don't care; I never forgot. Forgetfulness is not the answer to this kind of problem you know. You must learn to live with it in your head, because one day...one day you'll grow stronger than it, Jase. If you trust yourself, you can do a-ny-thing...that's what I always say...'', she patted him gently on his shoulder. ''There...better? C'mon, Jase, I wan't to see a smile!! Please...?''

As he listened to the stream of reassurance that flooded from Jessica's lips, Jase couldn't help but feel a little better. He didn't even know who she was, but she had somehow managed to make his situation seem so much easier to deal with. He even found his lips twitching, the corners of them ached to arch upwards. In the end, he gave in, he turned towards the girl and flashed her one of his sunniest smiles. He felt it was a just reward for all her help. "Wow, you sure know how to make a guy feel better. You're like some sort of happy fairy from Wonderland who goes around spreading love and joy through out the world. It's cool, shame you don't get paid though," he said, miming waving a magical wand of joy with his hands. He was glad to be back to himself. The shadow of guilt still remained, pounding in his chest, but he suppressed it for now, his mind was on other things.

Leilah forced a weary smile, still feeling quite guilty on what she had done to poor Jase. it was clear that she had awoken the wrong memories whihc had caused him a troubled mind, shadowing most of his happy and content thoughts. "yeah she should me," leilah added softly, the little smile still playing upon her fine lips. She turned to Jase though, looking at him with the uttermost sincerity. "I'm sorry i brought it up....I didn't mean too. I didn't know." She was panicking. that usual happened when this happened as she was now feeling the full guilt.

Jase did his best to look nonchalant, he didn't want to let on how terrible it had felt when Leilah had brought the subject, so he just smiled. "It's fine, I just overreacted, that's all," he said, lying through his teeth. "It's not your fault, don't worry. His face had recovered its usual, and the cold feeling that had swept through him at the mention of Casimir and the incident in the forest had been melted by the girl's smiles and the warmth of the fire light.

Leilah forced a weak smile but the melancholic cloud of guilt still hung over her head, making her thoughts become a slight turmoil of trouble. "I'm grateful for your forgiveness," she said in a little, shy voice, withdrawing in her little shell which she dwelled in most of the time.

''That's better!'', Jessica said happily.''A nice, bright smile!'' She giggled. ''A fairy from Wonderland? That's funny. Nah, I don't have special powers...But thanks , Jase!'' She smiled at both of them.

Leilah smiled subconsciously at the blissful words that came out of her mouth. She wondered if Jessica was always as happy as she was now. Some type of trait of hers and thus Leilah hoped it to be somewhat contagious. People needed happiness in a place like this where ghosts haunted, spreading a sickly plague of bitter unhappiness as they went.
