As black smoke spewed up from the frying pan that Luke was in charge of, he grimaced. His pancakes were going horribly wrong. He had added way too much flour, and they were burning faster than a forest fire. Through the smoke, his eyes noticed Mrs. Macario coming over to yell at him. Abruptly, he turned the temperature on the pancakes down and flipped one, which folded in half and began to burn. Luke's nostrils were engulfed in the black smoke, and he coughed loudly.
Very few of the other students were fairing well either. The entire classroom smelled like a mixture of burnt pancake and rubber, for some odd reason, and it was nearly impossible to see anything farther than a foot in front of you. He chuckled for a minute at the absurdity, but then his pancake burst into flames, bringing him back to the current situation at hand. Grabbing a cup full of water from the side of the stove - Mrs. Macario had instructed the students to fill one before in case they burned their pancakes. Luke poured the water on his pot and it began to sizzle as even more smoke came up, prompting Luke into an even larger coughing fit.

Leilah had never been very good at cooking, even though she was the one supposed to be doing it according to her religion. He r sisters were very good at is, always preparing these dishes with different sort of tastes going from sweet to sour, or sugary to salty. But no,Leilah's speciality was eggy bread, as it was the only thing that she could make. But now, she was challenging herself to the extreme;pancakes.
It had not begun well, with the cooker nearly blowing up on her, the flames liking her arm as she staggared back, black smoke pouring out. She coughed and once it had cleared up she returned. It was all going well, until she had to flip it. That was the worst, as she flpped it and it went everywhere. Landing on the guy enxt door.

Something kind of goopy yet hard hit Luke's bare arm. He jumped because the pancake was incredibly hot and he instinctively flung it off of his arm as quickly as possible so as not to burn his arm. Unfortunately, it left a red welt on his arm. Leaving his rock of a pancake to cook because he had decided it was useless already, he reached over to the tap and ran his arm under cold water for a little bit. He noticed the girl beside him who had flung the pancake onto him and grinned good-naturedly at her. "Don't worry about it," he told her over the sounds of sizzling. Luckily, he managed not to choke to death on the smoke emitting from his black chalky mess.

Leilah looked at him worridly, a frown on her face. She then groaned fustrated with herself that this had happened. Well, her dream of becoming a cook was not shattered. She suddenly got the scent of a foul, burning-like smell. Turning around, she saw black smoke pour out of the guy's kitchen. She rushed over to it, hoping that she'd be able to do something and turned off the gas and everything that seemed to be on. The smoke ceased, so rushing to the window Leilah flung it open, letting the smoke out.

Luke coughed for a while more as the smoke receeded out the window. "Wow. Thanks," he said as the girl rushed around his kitchen unit fixing his atrocious mess. Then he noticed that her kitchen beside his was smoking a lot too, so he left her to turn off her stove and pour some water on her charcoal colored pancake. "Well, we are awful at this," he concluded bluntly.

She coughed and ran over to the window, her eyes prickling from the amount of smoke that had poured out. It felt nice to feel the fresh air hit her face, as she inhaled the air with great relish. Sighing she finally answered his comment. "I don't think we'll became professinal cooks. I don't see that coming," she said dryly but with this little smile on her face.

Luke joined her at a window beside her that also happened to be billowing out black smoke. "No one in these classes has much of a future in cooking," he said, breaking off with another coughing fit. He turned and faced the girl in the window beside him and stuck out his hand. "Luke Remingon. Who are you?" he asked, trying to make eye contact with the girl.

Leilah blinked and smiled before turning to meet his gaze. She coughed though before answering, but finally she took a deep breath and answered his question. "I'm Leilah, the-girl-who-made-her-cooker-explode," she said in her usual strong arabic accent, introducing herself. "Nice to meet you Luke," she said and smiled again.

Luke grinned at her, managing to surpress yet another coughing fit, but he banged his head on the corner of the windowsill as he tried to come back into the classroom. "OW!" he exclaimed, his hand coming up to the back of his head and wincing. Not so smooth there, dude, he told himself, and turned red.

She returned to smile and giggled as he banged his head. She should have helped him, at least have done something but she just remained there laughing. “I’m so sorry. I should do something!” she laughed, her face turning red, until she finally halted and took at him, smiling broadly. “That was pretty unexpected.”
