Instinctively, Cat grabbed the cigarette out of her friend's mouth. "Come on, Cas, don't do this," she said hotly, standing up and sticking the cigarette into the river. Usually she wouldn't do this, but this was bad. She was expecting to get yelled at, because that's what normally happened when someone who was addicted to a drug got it taken away from them. This was awful. "Cas, you're killing yourself slowly... we need you here, okay? Just drop the package now." The redhead felt like crying now. Her life just seemed to be falling apart. Before, there had been the ghosts, but at least she had supportive friends and a steady boyfriend. Now, she had to worry a lot about her friends, her boyfriend was nowhere to be found, and the protective walls she had built around herself were falling slowly. But since she had just cried herself to sleep last night, she didn't want to do that and bit her lip hard to fight off the coming tears. "Please, Cas..."
[wow. this is dramatic.]

He looked at her sullenly, his brown furroing and his dark lock falling in front of his sober eyes. He looked at her curiously, yet quite gravely. She looked so..desperate,distressed. She look stressed as he could tell she was collapsing. He had to somehow save her. But that was a boyfriend's job. Not his and he couldn't be her boyfriend. That would be insane. Besides he was atleast two years older then her. But then again he was too years older then Scarlette.
He looked down at the packet and took it in his hand, looking down it. "You don't know what it's like when everything it blocked out from you. Of course it's not your fault but that's what just happened. Everything is bleak. So bleak and dark, like you're in an abyss or a very dark well. I couldn't even see whom i was kissing, Scarlette. I couldn't even look at myself. It was an ordeal and I'm no knight. I have not gone through knighthood. I have not been a page and a squire. It was hell. And I'm not Lucifer. Or Beelzubub. but these...cancer sticks...they have helped me cope with this ever lasting burden and get me through this ordeal and hell. They have taken so much off me. They have been my saviour even when i felt all was lost. I was so desperate, Cat. It was so dark. You have no idea..." his voice faded away as he looked out past the blurry stream. he was still in hell though. still in Satan's and Dante's realm.

Cat shook her head furiously. "They seem all nice and great, but they really aren't, Cas. My uncle smoked, you know. At first, he was happy and everything was going well. But then he got fired, and he couldn't support his family, so he turned to the cancer sticks. Our whole family noticed his downward spiral. It hurts everyone around you, Cas, even though you feel it's helping you. My uncle died last year, Cas, because he got lung disease." She blinked back tears and knelt down beside him, firmly taking his hand and prying the package of death out of his hand.

Casimir considered his words before speaking and finally he bowed his head and sighed, shaking it slightly. "I'm sorry about your uncle, Cat. You have my condolenses," he began, his voice soft and quite melancholy. "But...it's not that easy. When everything else was black...this was my only light...it's really not that easy."

Cat was getting angrier now. She hated when people completely disregarded what she was saying, when she knew it was for their own good. "Why is nothing easy anymore?" she said, her despaired voice wavering. "Cas, Scarlette doesn't want you to get hurt. Jase doesn't want you to get hurt. I don't want you to get hurt. There are lots of other people here who love you and want you to be okay. We can help you through it, okay?" she said, her voice trying to be comforting. "We want to help you."

He sighed again and avoided her eyes. It wasn't that simple. It was so much complicated. Even with their help it would be very difficult. It was all in his mind. It was phsycoligical (sp?) issue, unfortunatly. "Even with your help I wouldn't stop. Cat it'ssomething that I have to get through myself. It's all in my mind making it quite complex and difficult to get though and at the moment i don't have thestright to do it...why can't you understan?" he asked, desperatly.

"Okay, you do it yourself then," Cat retorted in a rare angry outburst as she stood up quickly. "We want to help you, and it'd be easier, but of course you can suffer through it yourself," she added coldly as she stepped away towards the river, her back to Casimir. She wanted to help but when he was blatantly refusing her help, she didn't see the point when he thought he could do it himself. "You're harming yourself," she reminded him sadly as she flopped down by the river on her back. This was all so confusing... The girl stretched her arm out to stick her hand in the water and sighed.

Casimir looked at her and got up and walked towards her, the pebbles crunshing on under his feet. He then sat next to her and brought his knees to his chest and sighed, closing his eyes. "Cat...please, it's not that easy. It really isn't...but," he said and took the packet out of his jacket and looked at it for a moment. "...but that coldness in your tone..." he said and stopped again, and looked at the packet before throwing it into the stream and watched it fall. "Such coldness..."

She avoided his eyes. "You're just being so stubborn," she said bluntly. "It's like the ghosts; when we started, we thought it would be easy to finish them off. But now look at us. We can't give up, we're in too deep. That's what's going to happen to you with the smokes, they're going to be your downfall and you're going to regret it. We can figure something out to get you off of them... loads of people quit..." She trailed off and there was an awkward silence.

He rested his head against his knees and sighed his eyes flickering open. "I don't want to do it again though. i don't want to go through the pain and bleakness.." he whispered hoarsly, his words trailing off.

"You won't, Cas," Cat insisted. "We're here for you. That's why you have friends, to help you through this. You're going to get through it and you're going to be fine at the end," she said, slightly irritated. I should be a psychologist Cat thought to herself. She did enough psycho-analyzing of everyone she met, anyways. "Please, just trust me that everything will be fine."

He looked up and forced a little smile. "I'll try but don't be surprised if you catch me with a cigarette in my mouth," he said quite bemused by his own determined attidue. he didn't want to though. he was just doing this to please cat. To make her happy and less preoccupied then she already was.

"Thank you!" Cat exclaimed breathlessly, a small smile crossing her face. "Now I've finally talked some sense into you, give them to me." Sitting up, she held out her hand, a serious expression on her face again. She knew this would be hard for him to do but she had to help him.

Casimir took at her firm in the eyes but suddenly he felt quite weak as her strong and determined gaze conquered his weakness. He felt vulnerable all of a sudden as he felt himself reach out from inside his jacket in search for his packet. One part wanted him to throw it away and not see those demonic things again. The other part embraced them with gratitude and wanted them to ever remain at his side. It confused him as he slowly took it out and put it onto Cat’s hand. His hand remained on it for a long time, remaining on it, but finally he had the strength to take it away. “Have you any idea how hard that was for me to do?” he said quite hoarsely as he looked away, tucking his hand back into his pocket.

A relieved smile crossed Cat's face as the package was dropped into her hand. She turned around and threw them into the river as hard as she could. It was littering, but she wanted to get rid of them as soon as possible. She didn't think of all the innocent fish she could be killing, but she just wanted to save her friend. She turned again and sat down beside Cas, giving him an encouraging hug. "I'm proud of you," she said, giving him a tight squeeze before letting go.
Then she turned serious again. "You aren't going to go out and buy more now, right?" she asked, her face stone cold. If he did, he would completely betray her trust and she would be very angry.
